A Greek island cruise lets you wake up somewhere new without packing your suitcase every morning. One day may begin in Mykonos, another in Santorini or Rhodes, while your cabin stays with you throughout the sailing.

Our Greece cruise packages follow several routes through the Aegean. Some concentrate on the Cyclades, others travel farther toward Rhodes or the Turkish coast, and selected itineraries combine the cruise with hotel nights and sightseeing in Athens or elsewhere in Greece.

What is included depends on the sailing. Cruise accommodation and selected meals are generally part of the cruise section, while some packages also include hotels, airport or port transfers, guided sightseeing, or shore excursions. Check the individual itinerary for the exact route and inclusions.

What Kind of Cruise Are You Looking For?

Start with how you want to spend your time, not simply how many islands appear on the route.

A Cyclades cruise keeps the focus on islands such as Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, and Santorini. It works well when the Aegean islands themselves are the main reason for the trip.

Other sailings continue farther south toward Rhodes or include additional Aegean ports, giving you a wider geographical route.

There are also cruises that cross between Greece and Turkey, with selected sailings calling at ports on the Turkish Aegean coast. Kusadasi, for example, provides access to Ephesus and creates a very different port day from those spent on the Greek islands.

Then there are cruise-and-land journeys, where the ship is only one part of the vacation.

These can be a good choice if you want to see several islands from the water but still spend proper time in Athens or another destination before or after sailing.

How Much Time Do You Actually Get Ashore?

This is one of the most useful things to check before choosing a cruise.

Two itineraries can visit the same island but give you very different days there. One ship may stay in port through the evening; another may leave after only a few hours.

Look at the scheduled arrival and departure times, not only the list of ports.

This matters particularly in places such as Santorini and Mykonos, where a short daytime call feels quite different from having enough time to stay into the evening.

A longer list of islands is not necessarily a better cruise if most of those visits are brief.

What Is Life Like Between the Islands?

The ship is part of the holiday, not simply transportation.

Instead of checking out of one hotel, travelling to a ferry port, moving your luggage, and checking into another hotel, you return to the same cabin after each port visit.

Meals and onboard facilities depend on the vessel and package. Some cruises place more emphasis on the ship itself, while others are primarily about reaching a new port each day.

Before booking, check the ship, cabin category, meal arrangements, and time spent sailing alongside the destination list.

Those details can have as much impact on the trip as the route.

Cruise Only or Cruise & Land?

If Athens is important to you, do not assume that seeing it briefly before embarkation is enough.

A cruise-and-land package can add hotel nights before or after sailing, giving you time for the Acropolis, historic Athens, or other parts of mainland Greece without trying to fit them around embarkation times.

The same principle applies to island extensions. Spending several nights on an island after the cruise gives you a very different experience from visiting it for a few hours as a port of call.

Cruising gives you variety. Staying on land gives you time.

Combining the two can give you both.

When to Take a Greek Island Cruise

The main Aegean cruise season runs through the warmer months, with a wider range of departures during late spring, summer, and early autumn.

May, June, September, and early October are attractive for travelers who want warm conditions without the busiest part of midsummer. July and August bring strong demand and a lively atmosphere at popular island ports.

Schedules are seasonal, however, and not every route operates throughout the entire period. Always compare the actual departure dates for the cruise you are considering.

Is a Cruise the Right Way to See Greece?

Choose a cruise if you like the idea of seeing several islands while unpacking only once.

If you would rather spend two or three nights on each island, choose your own restaurants in the evening, and have unscheduled days ashore, a hotel-based itinerary may suit you better. Our Greece Travel Packages use hotels with ferry or flight connections instead.
