Greece is one of those countries where the route matters as much as the number of days you have. You might spend a few days in Athens before heading to Santorini and Mykonos, stay longer on one island, or keep more of the trip on the mainland with Delphi and Meteora.
Our Greece Tours generally run from 6 to 15 days, with different ways to put the trip together. Some itineraries are private and flexible, others follow a more structured escorted program, and there are also cruise-based options. Depending on the tour, arrangements can include selected hotels, ferries or domestic flights, airport and port transfers, and guided sightseeing. Customized Tours are also available when an existing itinerary is close to what you want but needs a few changes.

Where to Go in Greece
Athens
Athens is usually the easiest place to start. The Acropolis, Parthenon, Acropolis Museum, and Ancient Agora cover much of the city's classical history, while Plaka and Monastiraki are better explored without much of a plan. Two or three nights gives most first-time visitors enough time before continuing to the islands or mainland.
Santorini
Santorini is small enough to explore without filling every day with activities. Oia and Fira are the best-known towns, but there are also volcanic beaches, wineries, archaeological sites, and villages away from the busiest viewpoints. Most of our itineraries leave enough free time here rather than turning the whole stay into organized sightseeing.
Mykonos
Mykonos has a different feel again. Beaches are a big part of the island, but Mykonos Town, Little Venice, and the windmills are all worth seeing on foot. If ancient history is still on your list after Athens, nearby Delos can be visited as a day trip.
Meteora
Meteora is on the mainland, well away from the island routes. Its monasteries sit on huge natural rock formations above the town of Kalambaka, and the setting is unlike anywhere else in Greece. It is often paired with Delphi as part of a longer mainland itinerary.
Delphi
Delphi can be visited from Athens or included on the way north toward Meteora. The archaeological site includes the Temple of Apollo and ancient theatre, with the mountains around the sanctuary forming an important part of the setting.
Athens, the Islands or the Mainland?
For a first visit, Athens plus Santorini or Mykonos is an easy place to start. With more time, you can add a second island or spend part of the trip on the mainland rather than moving from island to island.

When to Travel to Greece
April through October covers the main travel season, but the experience changes considerably between spring, midsummer, and early autumn.
May, June, September, and early October work particularly well if you want to combine sightseeing with the islands. July and August bring hotter weather and busier resorts, but also the widest choice of ferry connections and a livelier atmosphere on islands such as Mykonos.

How much moving around you want to do is worth deciding early. Visiting Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Delphi, and Meteora in the same trip may look appealing on a map, but adding another destination is not always the best use of an extra day.
