Istanbul travel packages from Magnificent Travel cover Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the Grand Bazaar, and a Bosphorus cruise in programs running 2 to 6 days. Every package includes a licensed English-speaking guide, hotel with daily breakfast, private vehicle and driver, and private airport transfers. Istanbul packages can be extended to include Cappadocia, Ephesus, or Pamukkale.

Istanbul is the only city in the world that spans two continents. The European side holds the historic peninsula with all major Ottoman and Byzantine monuments. The Asian side provides a quieter residential and market district. The Bosphorus strait between them is 32 km long and 700 metres wide at its narrowest point, and has been the strategic control point between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean for 3,000 years.

What Istanbul Tour Packages Cover

A 2-day Istanbul program covers: Hagia Sophia (completed 537 AD, originally the largest cathedral in the world, converted to a mosque 1453, reopened as a mosque 2020), the Blue Mosque opposite (Sultan Ahmed Mosque, completed 1616, the only mosque in Istanbul with six minarets), Topkapi Palace (1453, administrative centre of the Ottoman Empire for 400 years, housing the imperial treasury, the Harem, and the Pavilion of the Mantle of the Prophet), the Grand Bazaar (1461, 61 covered streets, approximately 4,000 shops), the Spice Bazaar (1664), and the Bosphorus cruise. Some programs add the Basilica Cistern (a 6th-century underground water reservoir with 336 columns, capacity 100,000 cubic metres).

2-Day vs 3-Day vs 4-Day Istanbul Programs

Two days covers the Historic Peninsula: all the monuments above plus the Hippodrome and the Obelisk of Theodosius (Egyptian, 3,500 years old). Three days adds the European shore by ferry, Dolmabahce Palace (the 19th-century Ottoman palace on the Bosphorus, 285 metres of waterfront facade), and the Beyoglu district including the Galata Tower (1348 AD). Four days allows a half-day excursion to the Princes Islands (a 1-hour ferry, no motor vehicles, horse-drawn carriages) or a day trip to Bursa, the first Ottoman capital.

Practical Information for Istanbul

Istanbul is served by two international airports: Istanbul Airport (IST), 40 km northwest of the city centre, and Sabiha Gokcen Airport (SAW), 40 km southeast on the Asian side. Private transfers from both airports are included in all packages. Istanbul's historic sites are concentrated in a 2-km radius on the Sultanahmet peninsula, all walkable. The Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays.

Best Time to Visit Istanbul

April through June and September through November are the best months. Spring brings mild temperatures (16 to 22 degrees) and manageable crowd levels. Autumn is similar. July and August are peak season: the Hagia Sophia queue can reach 2 hours without a pre-arranged guide entry, and temperatures exceed 32 degrees. December through February brings cold but allows uncrowded site visits; the Grand Bazaar and covered markets are more atmospheric in cooler weather.

Extending an Istanbul Package

Istanbul packages connect naturally to Cappadocia (1 hour 15 minutes by domestic flight) and to the Aegean coast. For a full Turkey circuit starting in Istanbul: 6 to 9 day Turkey tours or 10 to 14 day Turkey tours. For adventure activities in Istanbul (Bosphorus dinner cruise, Whirling Dervishes performance): Turkey adventure activities. Full overview: Turkey tours.

Standard Istanbul packages include: a licensed English-speaking guide for all site visits, 3 to 4-star hotel in Sultanahmet or Taksim with daily breakfast, private vehicle and driver, private airport transfers (both arrival and departure), and entrance fees to all listed sites. The Hagia Sophia does not charge a separate entrance fee for mosque visits, but the Topkapi Palace treasury and Harem require paid tickets included in your package.

Two days is the minimum to cover the Historic Peninsula highlights. Three days adds Dolmabahce Palace and Beyoglu. Four days allows a day trip to the Princes Islands or Bursa. Most first-time visitors find 2 to 3 days in Istanbul the right balance before continuing to Cappadocia or the Aegean coast.

Sultanahmet is the closest neighbourhood to all major monuments. The Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, and Topkapi Palace are within a 10-minute walk of most Sultanahmet hotels. Taksim and Beyoglu offer a more contemporary setting on the European side, a 15-minute tram ride from the Historic Peninsula. All Magnificent Travel packages use hotels in one of these two areas unless the client requests otherwise.

Since its conversion back to a mosque in 2020, the Hagia Sophia operates as a place of worship and entry is free for visitors. The interior is accessible outside prayer times. A dress code applies: shoulders and knees must be covered; head coverings are required for women inside the prayer areas. Your guide will advise on the current prayer schedule and optimal visit timing.

Yes. Istanbul is one of the world's major air hubs. Turkish Airlines connects Istanbul to over 300 destinations. Many travellers use Istanbul as a transit hub and add a 2 to 3-day stopover package when their layover allows. A minimum of 2 nights is needed to cover the main sites without rushing.

The major tourist areas of Istanbul, including Sultanahmet, Taksim, Beyoglu, and the Bosphorus shore, are visited by millions of international travellers each year and are considered safe. Standard city precautions apply. Magnificent Travel's guides and drivers are on call throughout your stay for any assistance needed.
