Turkey and Jordan combined tours from Magnificent Travel cover Istanbul, Cappadocia, Amman, Jerash, Petra, Wadi Rum, and the Dead Sea in itineraries running 10 to 14 days. Every package includes a licensed English-speaking guide in both countries, hotels with daily breakfast, private vehicle and driver, entrance fees to all listed sites, and the international flight between Istanbul and Amman. All Jordan transfers are by private road vehicle; no domestic flights are required within Jordan.
Turkey and Jordan together deliver three of the most recognisable heritage sites in the world within a two-week circuit: the Hagia Sophia, the rock-carved city of Petra, and the Dead Sea at 430 metres below sea level. Both countries are accessible from the same direction on direct flights from Istanbul to Amman (2 hours 45 minutes).
Why Turkey and Jordan Work Together
Turkey provides Byzantine and Ottoman history, a major cosmopolitan city, and the unique volcanic landscape of Cappadocia. Jordan provides Nabataean archaeology, one of the world's largest protected desert reserves, and the lowest accessible point on Earth. The two countries do not duplicate experiences. Both have well-established tourism infrastructure, English-speaking local guides, and a practical travel size.
What Each Country Covers
Turkey (Days 1 to 5)
Istanbul is the entry point. The standard program covers Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the Grand Bazaar, and the Bosphorus strait over 2 days. A domestic flight to Kayseri (1 hour 15 minutes) reaches Cappadocia for 2 nights: the Goreme Open-Air Museum, the Derinkuyu underground city (extends 85 metres below ground), and an optional balloon flight. Some packages add Ephesus and Pamukkale on the Aegean coast for 2 additional days.
Jordan (Days 6 to 10 or 14)
Amman is the entry point. Most packages begin with Jerash (48 km north of Amman), one of the best-preserved Roman provincial cities in the world, with an intact Oval Plaza, Cardo Maximus, and South Theatre (capacity 3,000). Petra is the centrepiece: the 1.2-km Siq gorge leads to the Treasury (40-metre Nabataean facade, 1st century BC), followed by the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs, and the Monastery (800 carved steps). Wadi Rum adds a 2-hour 4x4 jeep safari across 720 square kilometres of protected desert. The Dead Sea at 430 metres below sea level provides the final morning before departure.
Suggested Route and Duration
10 days: Istanbul (2 nights) + Cappadocia (2 nights) + Amman and Jerash (1 night) + Petra (1 night) + Wadi Rum (1 night) + Dead Sea (1 night). Minimum for covering both countries without skipping major sites.
12 days: Adds Ephesus and Pamukkale in Turkey, or the Desert Castles east of Amman and extra time in Petra.
14 days: Covers all the above plus Aqaba on the Red Sea or a second full day in Petra.
Getting Between Turkey and Jordan
Direct flights from Istanbul (IST) to Amman (AMM) take 2 hours 45 minutes and operate daily. This connection is included in the package price. No border crossing by land is required.
Best Time to Travel
March through May and September through November suit both countries. Jordan's Petra and Wadi Rum are comfortable in spring and autumn; Cappadocia balloon flights operate reliably. Avoid Wadi Rum in July and August (40 degrees Celsius). December through February: Petra can be cold and occasionally icy in the Siq; Cappadocia can have light snow.
